Helen L. Johnston, 100, formerly of Brawley Ave. and Hillside Home, Meadville and a current resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, died there Friday, August 29, 2008.
She was born in Blooming Valley April 27, 1908, a daughter of the late Park G. and Gertrude M. Waite Braymer. She married Charles D. Johnston April 2, 1930 and he preceded her in death October 8, 1988.
A 1926 graduate of Meadville High School, she worked as an office secretary for the Meadville School District and subsequently at Moore-Meadowbrook Dairy.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and member and past Worthy Matron of Golden Crown Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, James R. Johnston and his wife Kate of Meadville; a daughter-in-law, Olive B. Johnston of Meadville; 7 grandchildren, Rusty Gordon and her husband Jim of Conneaut Lake; Diann Frampton and her husband Dennis of Meadville; Sandra Hurban and her husband Jack of Cochranton; Sheryl Johnston of Meadville; Lynn Khalife and her husband Heithum of Meadville; Ronald Johnston and his wife Kelly of Meadville; and Charles Johnston and his wife Michelle of Saegertown; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son C. Richard Johnston, a brother, Sheldon Braymer, and 2 sisters, Marian Walker and Lena Halfast.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
