Heloise F. Brown

Heloise F. Brown, 94, of Meadville, died there Wednesday, January 24, 2001.

She was born August 10, 1906 in State College, a daughter of the late William A. and Mary Lutz Fye.  She married Andrew Lauren Brown August 19, 1933 and he preceded her in death July 2, 1963.

She was a graduate of State College High School and was the first woman to graduate from the Penn State University School of Architecture in 1927.  She later attended the former Edinboro State College and completed credits for certification as a librarian.  She worked at the Edwin Hanna Architectural Firm in Meadville where she helped design additions to the Crawford County Court House and the former Spencer Hospital; additionally, she did design work for the David Mead Inn and Maplewood Elementary School.  She subsequently worked as a children's librarian at the Meadville Public Library and as librarian at the Shontz Memorial Library of Conneaut Lake.  She was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Vernon Grange.  She was also a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was extremely interested in and proud of her family's accomplishments, interests, travels and activities.  She loved music and reading, enjoyed sewing and quilting, and was interested in genealogy, researching and designing her family chart.

She was a very active member of Watson Run United Church of Chirst, its Sunday School activities, and former organist and choir director for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mabel Jean Weber (Brian) of Meadville and Mary Ann Reimer (Lawrence) of Beatrice, Neb.; a son, Dr. Lauren R. Brown (Susan) of San Luis Obispo, CA; nine grandchildren, Duveen Penner (Roland) of DeWitt, Neb., James Reimer (Portia) of Grosse Point, MI, Jerome Reimer (Jan) of Beatrice, Christine Brown of San Francisco, CA, Sarah Brown of San Jose, CA, Lisa Brown of San Luis Obispo, Paula Beach (Jon) of Middletown, OH, Jonathan Weber (Sarah) of Tunkhannock, PA and Emily Allen (Bart) of Xenia, OH; nine great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Hilda Hoy of Meadville.

In addition her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald L. Fye.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Watson Run Cemetery.
