Henry J. Barrows, 42, who received a medical discharge from the United States Army this spring, died at the US Veteran Hospital in the Bronx, NY, Tuesday, July 27, 1943.
Mr. Barrows left Meadville by selective service last October, shortly before the age limit for men was set at 38 years. He was stationed at the Amarillo, TX but came to his home in Meadville on March 30. After seven weeks at home, he was in the Aspinwall Veterans Hospital for four weeks, then was admitted to the hospital in the Bronx. Until recently, his condition had apparently been greatly improved.
Mr. Barrows is survived by his widow, the former Gertrude Harriman, and an infant daughter, Gertrude Clara; by a brother, Howard Barrows of Meadowlands; and a sister, Mrs. G.W. Eisenacher, Anacostia, DC.
Mr. Barrows had lived in Meadville only about two years before being inducted, and had been employed at the Keystone Ordnance Works. He formerly lived at Washington DC. He was a member of the Charles N. Stafford Post of the American Legion, and of the FO Eagles.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
