Henry P. Schell, 89, of Sandy Lake, passed away peacefully at Meadville Medical Center in Meadville, Pa. on Thursday, February 17, 2022.
Henry was born on November 23, 1932, to the late Clarence and Eleanor Blair Schell in Sandy Lake, PA. He attended Sandy Lake schools and graduated from Sandy Lake High School in 1951. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Italy during the Korean War. He worked as a welder at Cooper Bessemer in Grove City for 43 years, retiring in 1995.
He married his beloved wife Esther “Toots” Zimmer on October 26, 1953, and they celebrated 68 years of marriage together, before her passing on October 20, 2021.
Henry was a long-time dedicated member of the Sandy Lake United Presbyterian Church. He was extremely devoted to his entire family, but especially loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his brother Bill at Chautauqua Lake in New York, roller skating, square dancing, visiting local casinos, supporting his children and grandchildren in activities and sports. He also enjoyed his daily visits to the McQuiston Center in Sandy Lake to see his friends and to play euchre and shuffleboard.
He will be deeply missed by his two sons, Mark (Alexa) of Stoneboro, PA and Scott (Kim) of Cochranton, PA; five grandchildren, Michelle Hankinson (Steve) Pittsburgh, PA, Nicole Bair (Shawn), Pittsburgh, PA, Kate Keller (Patrick) Stoneboro, PA, Derek Schell (Becka), Stoneboro, PA, and Brielle Schell, Cochranton, PA; three great-grandchildren, Copelan and Collins Keller and Leni Schell, as well as nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his sister Margaret Kasbee of Sandy Lake.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Henry was preceded in death by his brothers, George and Bill, and his sister, Betty Como.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 3236 S. Main Street, SANDY LAKE, where family and friends are welcome from 1 pm – 4 pm on Sunday, February 20. A funeral service will follow at 4 pm with the Rev. Beth Creekpaum, officiating.
Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery.
