Burns received when a General Electric worker fell into scalding water in a soaking pit resulted in death yesterday morning of Herbert Haas, 23, of Centerville.
Haas, a malleable moulder, died in Hamot Hospital a short while after he had been pulled from the pit by fellow workmen.
He was born in Meadville, and lived here for a number of years before moving to Frenchtown. He has lived near Little Cooley since his marriage about a year ago. Formerly employed at Talon, Inc., he had been working at the General Electric plant for the past several months.
A veteran of World War II, he was discharged from the army in October 1945, after having served with the First Army in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a member of the Meadville lodge of the L.O.O Moose, and of St. Hippolyte's Roman Catholic Church at Frenchtown.
In addition to his widow, Marion Wilcox Hass, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Virginia Johnson of Frenchtown; his father, Herbert P. Haas of Meadville; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ellen Rickert of Frenchtown and his paternal grandfather, Haven Haas of Meadville.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in St. Hippolyte Cemetery.
