Howard A. Powell

Howard A. Powell, 86, of Meadville, died Saturday, April 22, 1972, at Spencer Hospital after an illness of several months.

He was born at Cochranton on October 14, 1885, a son of Homer and Nancy Dean Powell.  He married Lucy Freyermuth on August 10, 1910.  She died in 1968.  Mr. Powell was graduated from Cochranton Schools and from Edinboro State College in 1906.  He taught school and was principle in Wayne Township School and for a short time taught and was principle at Cooperstown.  In 1944, he was employed by Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. at Franklin in war production.  For 35 years, he was engaged in dairy farming near Cochranton.  In 1950, he and Mrs. Powell became attendants at Polk State School, retiring to Meadville in 1958.  During his retirement, he became known for furniture refinishing and caning.  He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Miss Margaret Powell of Erie; a son, Walter S. of West Middlesex; three grandchildren, Nancy, Patricia and William Powell and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Cochranton Cemetery.
