Howard C. Caldwell, 79, of Meadville, died April 6, 1989, as a result of an automobile accident. He was born in Cambridge Township, April 7, 1909, a son of Ralph C. and Myrtie Beckman Caldwell. He married Martha Belle Welling February 4, 1933. She survives.
He had retired in 1974 from his position as a welder with FMC Corp. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ where he served as deacon, elder, teacher, Sunday school superintendent, and adult music director.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 234 and the Meadville Sportsman Club where he served as a hunter education trainer. He was an avid hunter and musician.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Betty Lou Stafford of Moisertown and Janet Elaine Bayer of Meadville; a brother, Raymond E. Caldwell of Conneautville; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvah Caldwell and a son, Howard C. Caldwell, Jr.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Venango Cemetery.
