Howard Dwayne “Moe” Firster, 75 of Hermitage, formerly of Stoneboro, passed away on January 13, 2023 at UPMC Shadyside. Moe was born in Stoneboro on January 15, 1947 to the late Herman and Pearl (Gadsby) Firster. He graduated from Lakeview High School and went on to serve his Country in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He was in the 1365th Photo Squadron for three years and then the 600th Combat Squadron in Vietnam and Thailand. After his time in the service he went to work at SCI Mercer as a corrections officer, retiring after 28 years.
Moe was a member of St. Columbkille Roman Catholic Church in Stoneboro. He enjoyed golfing and salmon fishing with his co-workers who were his best friends. He also was an avid sports fan, loving the Pittsburgh Steelers and going bowling. Most of all he loved his family, especially his children and grandson. As long as he and his wife were together, they were happy and had a good time.
Moe married his beloved wife, Lois Ann (Miller) Firster on December 26, 1966. The couple just recently celebrated 56 years together. She survives at home. Also surviving are his 2 sons: David (Michelle) Firster of Mercer; and Shawn (Meghan) Firster of Cranberry Twp, his grandson and sunshine of the family: Colton Firster of Cranberry Twp, and his sister: Pamela Vath and husband Russ Henry.
In addition to his parents, Moe was preceded in death by his brother Robert “Bob” Firster and his wife JoAnn.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose And Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Stoneboro & Sandy Lake.
Funeral services will be private
Interment will take place in St. Columbkille Cemetery.
