Howard H. Fitzsimmons

July 25, 1921 — January 29, 2001

Howard H. Fitzsimmons, 79, a resident of the Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, died there Monday, January 29, 2001 following a period of declining health.

He was born July 25, 1921 in Coraopolis, a son of the late Howard T. and Florence E. Sipes Fitzsimmons.  He married Evangeline Hunter, February 14, 1942 and she preceded him in death April 27, 1999.

He was a World War II Veteran of the US Army, having served in the Philippines and New Guinea and attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Following the war, he owned and operated the Lunchroom Restaurant in Cochranton.  He was a carpenter for the C. C. DeVore Lumber Company, Meadville for over 20 years.  He also worked as a bricklayer, millworker, auto mechanic and body shop technician, and truck driver.  He loved flying and obtained his private pilot's license.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sprint car racing, traveling to Alaska, and was a master lawn gardener.

He attended First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Dale A. Fitzsimmons (Karen) of Meadville and Duane E. Fitzsimmons (Joni) of Meadville; a daughter, Carol Gracey (Wayne) of Chugiak, AK; a sister, Vivian Waddle of Meadville; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Gracey, Shawn Gracey, Ryan Fitzsimmons and Duane Fitzsimmons, Jr.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and David Fitzsimmons and a brother, Raymond Fitzsimmons.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
