Howard W. Smith, 82, of 17105 Woodside Drive, Meadville died Sunday, November 9, 2003, at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in Wayne Twp. January 29, 1921, a son of Elmer L. & Irene Walker Smith.  He married Grace Brickner November 6, 1943, and she survives.

He was a veteran of World War II with the U. S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.

He had retired in 1983 as Assistant Foreman in the Polishing Department of Channellock after 36 years of service.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and a member of the former Meadville Rescue Squad.

Survivors in addition his wife of 60 years, include, 1 daughter Susan Wykoff and her husband Gary of Meadville, and 1 son Ward W. Smith and his wife Linda of Portland, Oregon, 4 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mildred Brown of Cooperstown, Alice Messerall of Meadville, and Linda Vaughn of Paris, IL, 1 brother Elery Smith of Guys Mills.

He as preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gaylord and Walter Smith.

Calling hours will be Monday from 7-9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Brian Moran, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
