Hugh J. Mosbacher

March 28, 1908 — September 6, 1979

Hugh J. Mosbacher, 71, of Meadville, retired jeweler and founder and former owner of Mosbacher's Jewelry Store, died Thursday, September 6, 1979, at the United Methodist Home and Nursing Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born in Meadville March 28, 1908, a son of William and Grace Ross Mosbacher.  He married Harriette Louise Roschie March 2, 1947.  He was a graduate of Meadville High School and Lancaster.  He held degrees in watchmaking, diamond setting and jewelry designing and engraving.

After graduation from Bowman Technical School, he was employed by Talon, Division of Textron, for three years and then was a watchmaker for Shoppene Jewelry of Titusville, prior to opening his own jewelry store in 1938.  The store now is owned and operated by Mrs. Mosbacher.

He held a private pilot's license since 1946 and prior to his illness was a member of Meadville Lions Club, where he was a director for three terms and first vice president; member of Meadville Country Club and Meadville Chamber of Commerce.

He also was active in several charitable organizations before his illness.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Dr. Hugh E. Mosbacher of Independence, MO and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
