Ida E. Wood

September 18, 1863 — December 30, 1962

Miss Ida Elizabeth Wood, 99, until three years ago a resident of Meadville, died early Sunday morning, December 30, 2962, at the Bittersweet Rest Home, Jamestown, NY, where she had been living the past three years.

Miss Wood was a teacher for 45 years, 30 years at Ridgway.  She retired in 1925.  When she began teaching in September, 1880, she earned $10 a month.  At her father's suggestion, she gave $1 a month to the church.  She was a tither all the rest of her life and was devoted to the work of the Women's Missionary Society of Guys Mills and Park Avenue Congregational Churches.

Miss Wood was treasurer for the society for more than 26 years and served as assistant to the Park Church's benevolent treasurer.  She also was a member of Col. Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Miss Wood was born at Guys Mills, September 18, 1863, a daughter of Charles F. and Sarah K. Dole Wood.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Carrie Waid, Miss Gertrude Wood and Fred D. Wood.

Surviving is a cousin, Mrs. Francis (Alice) McCanna of Jamestown, NY.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
