Ignatius J. 'Babe' Lobue

Ignatius J. “Babe” LoBue, 83, of 7520 Walnut St., Meadville, died Monday, May 28, 2007 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

He was born in Meadville October 14, 1923, a son of the late Joseph and Josephine Bova LoBue.  He had been married to Anna Ellen Twombley and subsequently married Rena B. King in 1974 and she preceded him in death November 17, 2003.

He was a graduate of Meadville High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.  He worked at the American Viscose, as a salesman for Fuller Brush Company, and was owner and operator for many years of LoBue’s Grocery Store.

He was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church and was a life member of the Italian Civic Club and Meadville Eagle’s Aerie 429.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Mary Ellen Peterson and her husband Jimmie of Cochranton and Carol Ann Cox and her husband Larry of Guys Mills; 2 sisters, Rose Brunner and Sarah A. Leri of Meadville; a brother, Mariano “Joe” LoBue of Meadville; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Twombley and 2 sisters, Marie Mischler and Mary LoBue.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home with a Scripture Prayer Service.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville with Fr. Mark Hoffman as Celebrant.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
