Imogene V. White

Imogene V. White, 96, of Meadville, died Friday, July 7, 2006 at her residence.

She was born in Meadville August 13, 1909, a daughter of the late Robert L. and Lucy Titus White.

She graduated from Meadville High School in 1927 and subsequently received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Edinboro State Teachers College in 1942 after attending regular, summer, and evening classes.  Some of the classes were taken at the Chautauqua Summer School.  She received her Masters in Education from New York University in 1953.

Ms. White began teaching in the Beech one-room school in Woodcock Township for 2 years followed by 7 years at the Bethesda School.  She taught both at East End Elementary School and at the Meadville Junior High School.  Her teaching career spanned 47 years.  She was a member of the New York University Alumni Association, PA Delta Kappa Gamma Society International of key Women Educators, Crawford County Chapter of the PA Association of School Retirees, and PA Business and Professional Women’s Club from 1936 to 2004.

Ms. White was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was a former choir member.

Survivors include a nephew, James M. Johnson of Belvidere, NJ; a niece, Roberta L. Van Slyke of Lampasas, TX; and several cousins.  She was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Mary W. Van Slyke, Mildred Mitchell Cummings, and Evelyn W. Johnson.

Calling hours will be Monday from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where a funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Sarah D. Roncolato, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Cochranton Cemetery.
