Irene M. Higby

Irene M. Higby, of Meadville, died Monday, December 7, 1998 at Chapel Pointe Retirement Community, Carlisle following a period of declining health.

She was born in Westfield, NY, a daughter of the late Sherman and Mary Diehl Higby.

She was a graduate of Lawrence Park High School in Erie and a 1938 graduate of Allegheny College where she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Sorority.  She also received her Masters Degree from Allegheny College.  She taught mathematics in the Meadville School System for 27 years.  She previously taught at Commodore Perry High School and N. Fort Myers High School in N. Fort Myers, FL.  She was a member of the PA Retired Teachers Assn. and Crawford County Retired Teachers Assn.

She was a member of Meadville Alliance Church and its Truth Seekers Sunday School Class and Women's Missionary Prayer Fellowship.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her companion of 43 years, Mildred Donaldson; one sister, Dorothy Grimler; and four brothers, Herbert, Alfred, James and Walter Higby.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
