Irene S. Hall

Irene S. Hall, 86, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at her residence.

She was born October 9, 1927 in Tarentum, a daughter of George C. and Mabel A. Lasher Michael.  She married William Erie Hall February 1, 1947 and he preceded her in death August 8, 2006.

Irene was a 1945 graduate of Meadville High School.  She was a homemaker who in her early years had worked at Channellock and the Pennsylvania Bank & Trust Co.

An active life-long member of Grace United Methodist Church, Irene served as a Sunday School teacher, organist, member and past president of the United Methodist Women, member of Church Women United, and in later years as a secretary on various church boards.  She was in charge of the church kitchen for nearly three decades, where along with the good help of others, she cooked and served countless dinners including funeral luncheons.  In 2011, the kitchen and dining room were named “Irene Hall” in her honor.

Irene volunteered for many years at the Meadville Soup Kitchen and Wesbury United Methodist Community, as well as a VISTA volunteer providing tax preparation assistance for seniors.  She was a life-long Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Corey and her husband Fred of Meadville, Karen Plummer and her husband Jerry of Columbus, IN, and Maryanne Stein and her husband Rex of Mercer; a son, William E. Hall, Jr. of Meadville; eleven grandchildren, Robert, Jameson, Brandon, and Benjamin Corey, Daryl Phillips, Clarissa Munn, Nathan Stein, Heather Maynard, Rachelle Marsteller, Emily Starlin, and Kevin Hall; twelve great-grandchildren, Kyle, Anya, Aleksey, and Brandon Corey, Damian Phillips, Myleigh and Sydnee Munn, Austin Stein, Lilly Grace Maynard, and Emma, Alexa, and Leigha Marsteller; her beloved dog Reggie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by twin granddaughters, Melissa and Jessica Hall and 2 half-brothers, Leslie and Paul Michael.

Calling hours are today (Thursday) from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Goodnough, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
