Irene S. Schroeder, 83, formerly of Meadville, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since 1997, died there, Thursday, May 31, 2001 following a period of declining health.
She was born in McKeesport, PA, July 31, 1917 a daughter of Daniel and Suzanna Bartok Toboz. She married George W. Schroeder June, 30, 1938 and he preceded her in death January 31, 1996.
She was co-owner and operator of Willey's Car Wash on lower Chestnut Street from 1962-1971. She attended Emmanuel United Church of Christ and was a member of the Galavanters and the Hobby Club. She loved sports and was an avid competitor. She was especially proud of playing girls basketball while a student at Saegertown High School. She also enjoyed traveling, especially across the western US.
Survivors, include a daughter, Carol S. Prather (Mark) of Meadville; a son, George L. Schroeder (Mary) of Meadville; a sister, Elizabeth Griffin of Meadville; a brother, Edward Toboz of Winter Haven, FL; five grandchildren, J. D. Prather, Ross Prather, Kathryn O'Connor, Jessica Schroeder and Jennifer Schroeder; four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, Helen Bado, Daniel Toboz, Emma Orris, Louis Toboz, Albert Toboz, William Toboz, Leslie Toboz and Eleanor Toboz.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
