Irwin George Leistner

Irwin George Leistner, 82, of Meadville, died Monday, December 05, 2011 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

He was born in Meadville February 12, 1929 a son of George and Lena Kroener Leistner.

He was a 1947 graduate of Meadville High School and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in Germany from 1950-1952.  He worked as a bricklayer and was a member of Bricklayer and Allied Craftsman Local #9 Pittsburgh.  He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, a lifetime member of Meadville Eagles Club #429, member of the former Davis Hose Vol. Fire Dept., Harm Jan Huidekoper VFW Post #2006, American Legion and the Dank Chapter #71 of Erie (German Heritage Society).

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and all sports, especially the Pirates and Steelers.  He was an all-around good Christian man.

Survivors, include: a sister, Anna Marie Sass and her husband Erich of Meadville; two nieces, Carol Erie and her husband John of Meadville and Susan Gionti and her husband John of Saegertown; a nephew, Paul Sass of Glendale, CA; a great niece, Catrina Erie; two great nephews, Tom Erie and Joshua Gionti and a great great nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Timothy Solomon, Pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by VFW Post #2006.
