Isabelle Maloney Knight Dorwart, 102, of Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since 2009, died there, Wednesday, November 26, 2014
She was born in East Mead Twp., Crawford County August 20, 1912 a daughter of Alfred J. and Mary Dain Maloney. She married Arthur W. Knight in 1936 who preceded her in death in 1943. She subsequently married Charles F. Dorwart in 1956 and he preceded her in death in 1980.
She was a 1930 graduate of Meadville High School and a 1932 graduate of the former Edinboro State Normal School. She taught in various one room school houses around the Meadville area for several years before teaching in the Greenock, PA schools for 8 years. Teaching young people was a career that she loved, and she influenced many young people in a positive way. During her later years, she helped a Korean woman and her daughter immigrate to the United States and helped them to learn to live here and become good citizens. She was an excellent quilter and enjoyed gardening, canning and reading.
She is survived by a daughter, Marian Knight of High Point, NC; two sons, Dave Knight of Edinboro and Jim Knight of Bloomingdale, IL; two step-sons, Dwight Dorwart of Columbiana, OH and Richard Dorwart of Glenshaw, PA; a step-daughter, Judith Clark of Sebring, FL; a foster-daughter, BuNam Scanlon of Sebring, FL; two sisters, Mildred Huber and Wilma Campbell both of Meadville; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Knight; a step-son, Charles Dorwart, Jr., five brothers and one sister.
Following cremation a memorial service will be held in the late spring.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
