Isabelle (Belle) T. Potter, 98, was born in Jenningston, WV to Castoria E. Smith on June 18, 1917 and was given a new birthday by her Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 30, 2016.
Belle was raised by her guardian parents James A. and Sara M. Smith Burkett. Following graduation from Niagara Falls High School, Niagara Falls, NY, she soon met and married her one and only Harold H. Potter October 16, 1937. He preceded her in death July 6, 1975.
Belle was first a wife, mother, and homemaker enjoying cooking, canning, quilting, playing cards, reading, was a beautiful seamstress, and was known in the family for “Aunt Belle’s pumpkin pies.”
She retired from Talon in 1977 following 24 years of service as an inspector.
Belle is survived by her daughter, Janice Potter of Meadville; a sister, LeAnna Haemer of Meadville; two “adopted” daughters, Sandy and Edie; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and numerous friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marian McClain and Genevieve Leguard; a nephew, Philip Davenport; and a niece, Barbara C. Riley.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Joe Kaufer, Chaplain of Southern Care Hospice, officiating. An additional celebration of Belle’s life will be held at a future date for the convenience of other family members.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
