Ivan R. O’Connor, 83, of 571 Gilmore St., Meadville, died Friday, February 8, 2002 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community following a period of declining health.
He was born March 9, 1918 in Kittanning, a son of the late Roswell Parker and Cora Pearl Fulton O’Connor. He married Helen E. Hatfield July 30, 1939 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School and was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served from 1941 to 1945. He worked in meat sales for over 30 years for Swift and Company and subsequently worked as a meat cutter at the Red White and Super Duper Grocery stores in Cambridge Springs. He was a member of Stone United Methodist Church since 1962, a 50-year member of Meadville Masonic Lodge #234 and a volunteer at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community. He was also an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Daniel Parker O’Connor and his wife Mercedes of Seattle, WA; a brother, Richard O’Connor of Venango; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Cecil, Robert, and Donald O’Connor and 3 sisters, Freda Blaney, Martha Baker, and Jean Peterson.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Masonic service Monday at 7 p.m.
The funeral and committal service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. William L. Brown, Visitation Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Venango Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
