J. Arthur Spohr, 82, of Meadville, died at Spencer Hospital Wednesday, November 25, 1970, after an illness of about one year.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY, November 9, 1888, a son of Henry and Amelia Steinhower Spohr. He married the former Edna Klippel September 1, 1921.
Mr. Spohr attended Allegheny College as a member of the Class of 1914. He graduated from Case School of Applied Science, Cleveland, in 1916.
He retired in 1963 after after working 29 years as a tool inspector at Talon, Inc. He was employed as a foreman at McCrosky Tool Co. from 1918 to 1929.
Mr. Spohr was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ and its Men's Fellowship. He taught Sunday school at the church for 38 years.
A veteran of World War I, Mr. Spohr was a member of the American Legion.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 408, Northwest Commandery 25, Solomon Royal Arch Chapter 191, Timothy Alden Council 60 and the Coudersport Consistory.
Surviving, in addition to his widow, are one daughter, Mrs. Paul C. (Esther) Menster of Lyndhurst, OH; one son, Dr. D. Arthur Spohr of Washington, DC; one sister, Mrs. F. B. McClimans of Meadville; one brother, Everett Spohr of Meadville and six grandchildren.
A sister, Miss Freda Spohr, died previously.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
