J. Earl Walton, 58, of Meadville, former treasurer of Crawford County, died Friday evening at City Hospital after a brief illness. He suffered a stroke about a week ago.
Mr. Walton was treasurer of the county from 1920 to 1924. He suffered amputation of both legs when he was 3 years old after he was involved in a mowing machine accident.
Born in Wayland community, he spent his entire life there. He was the son of Clifford and Etta Beatty Walton. His wife died in 1936.
Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Walton of Meadville; a son, John E. Walton of Conneaut Lake; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Raymond Theuret and Mrs. Theodore Burton, both of Wayland and Mrs. Charles Walton of Wayland.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.
