J. Harold Hopkins

J. Harold Hopkins, 81, formerly of Edinboro, a resident of the United Methodist Home and Nursing Hospital since March 1979, died at City Hospital Saturday, March 21, 1981, after an illness of several months.

He was born in Meadville, October 29, 1899, son of Grant U. and Grace Bixby Hopkins.  He married Leita Ryan August 29, 1924.

He was retired as a special agent with Monarch Life Insurance Co., where he worked for more than 30 years.  In his early life, he worked in the Meadville office of First National Bank.  He was in the Student Army Training Corps at Allegheny College in 1918.  He was a graduate of the former Edinboro State Normal School and received a business administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

He was a member for more than 50 years of United Methodist Church of Edinboro.   He was a 50-year member and past master of Oasis Lodge 416, Edinboro, and was lodge treasurer for 27 years.  He was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie.

Survivors include his wife, a resident of the United Methodist Home and two cousins.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Edinboro Cemetery.
