J. Richard Moyer

J. Richard Moyer , 93, formerly of Conneaut Lake and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community died there Thursday, May 26, 2016.

He was born in Cochranton April 23, 1923 a son of James Bryan and Ocie Mae Shaffer Moyer.  He married Jean Rae Richardson September 7, 1946 and she preceded him in death December 6, 2006.  He subsequently married Rosemay Dewey Benson June 14, 2008 and she survives.

He was a 1941 graduate of Cochranton High School.  He then served in the US Army Air Corps in World War II in the Pacific theater of operations.  Following the war he graduated in 1950 from Grove City College with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and then received his Master’s degree in Education from Westminster College.  He first worked as a social studies teacher at Cochranton High School and then for many years as a guidance counselor at Conneaut Lake High School.  He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Association of School Retirees and he enjoyed golfing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Rosemay of Meadville, include: three sons, John Moyer of Conneaut Lake, David Moyer of Maumee, OH and Kevin Moyer and his wife Denise of Conneaut Lake; a daughter, Betsy Tingley and her husband Reggie of Conneaut Lake; four step-children, David Lee Benson and his wife Julie of Greenville, SC, Christine Thompson and her husband Charles of Salisbury, NC, James Benson of Lincoln, VT and Mark E. Benson and his wife Kathy of Coraopolis, PA; a sister, Elizabeth Ann Moyer of Meadville; a brother, Robert J. Moyer of Meadville; fourteen grandchildren, Jennifer Hooper, Adam Moyer, John Moyer II, Jimmy Kyle, Nicki Moyer, Brenden Groger, Cherie Sobota, William Caldwell, Tommy Moyer, Karen Moyer, Joey Moyer, Jenel Tingley, Derek Tingley and Trevor Tingley; thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Jean, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen Sue.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 31st from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 240 N. Third Street, Conneaut Lake.  The funeral service will follow at the church at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jay Sterling and Rev. Dave Brumagin, officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Missions Program, P.O. Box BB, Conneaut Lake, PA 16316.
