J. Warren Umstead

J. Warren Umstead, 94, of Meadville, died Tuesday, October 20, 1987, at Edwards Hospital, Naperville, IL, following an illness of several months.

He was born in Dublin, Bucks County, December 22, 1892, a son of Elmer and Rosella Myers Umstead.  He married Hazel Cutshall on July 18, 1927, and she died May 3, 1972.  He subsequently married Caroline Sigworth in 1974, and she died in 1976.

He was retired as plant manager at Otto Milk Co. of New Bethlehem and has worked for several years in the milk business in the Saegertown area.  He was a member of West Springfield United Methodist Church and took the short-term course in agriculture at Pennsylvania State University.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Allan (Carolyn) Shaffer of East Springfield, with whom he resided; three sisters, Etta Ulmer of Pottstown, Flora Gottschalk of Hungtingdon Valley and Anna Hunsberger of Plumsteadville and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Carl and Merle; two sisters, Della Shelly and Lora Fry; and a brother, Linford.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Cochranton Cemetery.
