Jack F. Kohler, 87, of 654 Warren Ave., Meadville, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Meadville May 13, 1921, a son of the late John R. Kearney and Gertrude Ross Kohler. He married Shirley Bantz July 2, 1949.
A 1939 graduate of Meadville High School, Jack was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1946 with the 841st Engineer Aviation Battalion. He worked at Talon, Inc. for 47 years, retiring in 1986 as a tool inspector.
Jack was a life member of Meadville Elks Lodge 219, Meadville Eagles Aerie 429, and West Mead Township #2 Fire Hall. Additionally, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville Masonic Lodge 408, Kismet Grotto, and American Legion Post 111. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, following Meadville High School football and basketball teams, and formerly played softball.
A member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, he was the financial secretary for 20 years.

Anne of Conneaut Lake, Steven L. Kohler of Rockledge, FL, Jeffrey A. Kohler of Cocoa, FL, and Cynthia A. Findley and her husband Ronald of Carlisle, 9 grandchildren, Nathan Youngblood, Terra-Lynne McBride and her husband C.J., Christopher Kohler and his wife Melissa, Jaclyn McCoy and her husband Charles, Jamie Kohler, Jordan Kohler and his wife Lindsay, Ashton Kohler, Briana Blewett, and Devon Blewett; 2 step-grandchildren, Jennifer Becher and her husband Charles and Stephanie Findley, 2 great-granddaughters, and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James P. Kohler and a great-granddaughter.
Calling hours are today (Thursday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with an Elks service today at 6:45 p.m.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Timothy Solomon, Pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.
