Jack L. Noel, 79, of Meadville, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

He was born July 9, 1934 in Meadville, a son of Robert and Laura Zeitler Noel.  He married Joyce Keefe Sopher June 24, 1977 and she survives.

Jack was first employed in the physical therapy department of Meadville City Hospital and then Abex Corporation for over 20 years as a foundry worker, and subsequently retired from Channellock following over 10 years of service.  After his retirement, Jack worked in security at Wesbury, a job he truly loved and where he was a devoted employee for over 10 years and where he always made everyone feel at ease and had a wonderful sense of humor.  A hard working man all of his life, Jack enjoyed hunting for a short time, blue grass music and working in his yard.  He was a passionate New York Yankees fan which was only second to his loving wife, children, and grandchildren whom he took great pride in and cherished his time spent with them.

He was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Joyce of 37 years, include five children, Laurie Hackworth and her husband Jack of Linesville, Mickey Noel and his wife Bernadette of Massillon, OH, Cody Noel of Meadville, Jamie Sopher and his wife DeAnna of Meadville and Jackie Cox and her companion John Homa of Spartansburg; seven grandchildren, Allie Sopher, Nolan Cox, Kayla Noel, Erin Sopher, Adrienne Sopher, Andrew Hackworth, and Jacob Hackworth; a brother, Robert (Red) Noel and his wife Betty of Meadville; a sister, Betty Ann Noel of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Noel and a daughter-in-law, Tammy Noel.

Calling hours are today from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Barco Chapel of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville where a memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski of St. Agatha Church and Rev. Philip Torre, Wesbury assistant chaplain, officiating.

Interment will be in St. Agatha Cemetery.
