Jack M. Kordes

March 21, 1940 — April 2, 2012

Jack M. Kordes, 72, of Meadville, died Monday, April 2, 2012 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born March 21, 1940 in Kittanning, a son of Harold W. and Janet E. Crytzer Kordes.  He married Nancy Baum May 25, 1963.

Jack was a 1958 graduate of Kittanning High School and attended Slippery Rock University.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-1968.  He served aboard the USS Sea Robin, USS George Washington Carver as a plankowner and nuclear reactor operator, and the USS Sea Owl as an electronics technician.  He was a member of the Requin Base (Submarine Group), Pittsburgh.

Jack was employed at PPG Industries for 32 years.  He was a founding member of Lake Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed reading, pets, being active outdoors, working on the computer, and was an avid Penn State football fan.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Nancy of 48 years, include a son, Jeffrey Kordes and his wife Tammy of North East; a daughter, Kristen Kordes of Meadville; two grandsons, Riley Jack and Reece Matthew Kordes; two brothers, Richard Kordes and his wife Cathy of Loganton and Bradley Kordes and his wife Susan of Carlisle; a brother-in-law, Jack Baum and his wife Kathie of Conneaut Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake.

The funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. David McIlvried officiating.

Interment with military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
