Jack S. Walls, Sr., 93, of Meadville, died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born October 23, 1916 in Meadville, a son of Joseph H. and Gwendola Sutton Walls, Sr. He married Florence Vaughn April 27, 1946.
Jack was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations and in the invasion of Peleliu. He worked at Talon as a machinist for 45 years, retiring in 1979. He also did construction work on the side.
He was a member of American Legion Post 205, Saegertown and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was formerly affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, enjoyed fixing things, music, dancing and visiting friends, especially his good friend Don Wilson. He loved his children and grandchildren very much.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Florence of 64 years, include 3 sons, Douglas Walls and his wife Kay of Finksburg, MD, Donald Walls of Linesville, and Jack Walls, Jr. and his wife Diane of Cochranton; a daughter, Janet Walls of Columbus, OH; a sister, Betty Davern of Meadville; 3 brothers, Jerry Walls and his wife Joanne of Meadville, Robert Walls of Grand Valley, and Waldon Walls of Lincoln, NE; 9 grandchildren including his grandson Travis; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lee Walls, 2 sisters, Anna Mae and Margaretta Walls, and 2 brothers, Joseph Walls, Jr. and Paul Edward Walls.
Private family calling hours will be at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A public funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Hunter officiating preceded by a Saegertown American Legion Service at 10:50 a.m.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
