James A. Cousins

James A. (Jim) Cousins, 77, of Blooming Valley, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at Meadville Medical Center. He was born May 13, 1940 in Sussex, NJ, a son of the Rev. James G. and Thelma I. Johnston Cousins. Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam era, serving in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966. He was a graduate of the University of Chicago with a bachelors degree in social work. He retired from the Erie V.A. as a social worker and he led group discussions with veterans groups of all eras. He was a member of several professional social work organizations. Jim was of the Methodist faith. He loved hunting, shooting sports and history and he was a very kind and generous man. Survivors include two sons, J. Allen Cousins (Cathy) of Shelby, AL and Brian Joseph Cousins (Allison) of Adger, AL; three grandchildren Erich and Laurel Cousins and Amanda Appleby (Ian); two sisters, JoAnn Ebbert of Ohio and Janet Lochrane (Thomas) of Rochester, NY; and two nieces and two nephews. Calling hours will be Thursday, January 4th from 1 to 3 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Brumagin officiating. Interment will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
