James A. Kebort

James A. Kebort, 86, of Meadville, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Crawford County Care Center following a period of declining health.

He was born January 31, 1926 in Meadville, a son of William and Iva Alzingre Kebort.  He married Jeannine Smith June 4, 1955 and she preceded him in death April 5, 2011.

Jim attended Meadville High School and was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic Theater of Operations.  He worked for over 40 years as a conductor for the Erie-Lackawanna and Conrail Railroads.

Jim was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.  He enjoyed golfing, fishing and especially spending time with his family.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey J. Kebort and his wife Vonna of Paradise, TX; two daughters, Jeanne M. Gunn and her husband Michael of Meadville and Jill A. Shilling and her husband David of Hastings, MI; eight grandchildren, Stacie L., Erin N., Daniel J., and Joanne E. Kebort, Gregory R. Gunn, Jeremy D. Shilling and his wife Megan, Jami L. Bernheisel and her husband Josh, and Dana M. Shilling; two great-grandsons, Nicholas and Luke Kebort; a sister, Dorothy Holtzhauser of Stuart, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews including Janice Mailliard of Meadville.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Scripture Prayer service at 8:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski as Celebrant and military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.

Interment will be in St. Agatha Cemetery.
