James A. Scowden, 79, of 22451 Shartle Road, Meadville died Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie following a brief illness.
He was born in Meadville June 13, 1927 a son of Albert and Ida Pratt Scowden. He married Eleanor Dietz October 21, 1951 and she survives.
He retired in 1995 as a machinist from Leech Tool and Die after 28 years of service. Previously he was a bus driver for the former Randolph-East Mead School District and a farmer with a stall at the Meadville Market House.
He was a member of Wayland Baptist Church, a collector of antiques and old post cards and he enjoyed fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Eleanor of 54 years, include: two daughters, Linda Scowden of Meadville and Carol Banks Cornell and her husband Michael of Meadville; one son, Albert L. Scowden and his wife Tina of Meadville; and adopted son, John Woodcock and his wife Kathy of Guys Mills; ten grandchildren, Charles, Heather, Rebecca, Mary Ellen, Matthew, Adina, Stephanie, James, Nicole and Jennifer and two great grandchildren, Rain and B.J.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Emma Fairchild, Autumn Neff Theuret, Mary Monnin and Margaret Shaw.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral service will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Harold Ferraro, Pastor of First Church of God, officiating.
The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
