James Dale Garfield

James Dale Garfield, 78, of Meadville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, May 16, 2021.

He was born April 26, 1943 in Meadville, a son of George O. and Frances B. Gross Garfield.  He married Nancy Gregory October 14, 1967.

Jim was a 1961 graduate of Saegertown High School.  He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1967.  He was a union carpenter and member of local 556.  He additionally was a self-employed carpenter and subsequently worked as a facility engineer at Meadville Medical Center for 17 years.

Jim was of the Baptist faith and a former member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He enjoyed golfing, hunting, railroads and trains where he was a member of the French Creek Valley Railroad Historical Society, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Nancy, include two daughters, Jodi Whitehead (David) of Arlington, TX and Tracey Steiger (Dustin) of Meadville; five grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan, Kyle and Blake Steiger and Madison Whitehead; a brother, Brian Garfield (Roxanne) of Englewood, FL; two sisters, Karen Joslin (Bradley) and Susan Schreck (Michael), all of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Geoffrey Joslin.

Family and friends will be received Thursday, May 20th from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE followed by military honors provided by VFW Post 2006 at 6:30 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 25th from 5-7 p.m. at the French Creek Valley Railroad Historical Society, 136 Mead Ave., Meadville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the French Creek Valley Railroad Historical Society, P.O. Box 632, Meadville, PA 16335.
