James E. Monroe

James E. Monroe, 63, of Conneaut Lake, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born November 5, 1936, in Ford City, a son of William J. and Marie Schifkins Monroe.  He married Dolores (Dee) M. Gernot, October 26, 1963.  She survives.

He was a Eucharist minister, lector, RCIA team committee member and served on the bingo committee of the Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, of which he was a member, for 13 years.  He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 6037.

He retired from PPG Industries in 1997 after 43 years of service.

He served as a staff sergeant with the US Army on active duty and reserves for 23 years.  He served in Greenland and Germany, and received a citation for Outstanding Service to the US Army.

He was a past master of the Ford City Eagles.  He enjoyed his family, his dog, Max, yard work, motorcycles and cars.

Survivors include a son, William J. Monroe (Mary B.) of Conneaut Lake; a sister, Mary Louise Consla (Allen) of Albuquerque, NM; two nieces and two nephews.

Services were held at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home.

Interment was in Our Lady Queen of the Americas Cemetery.
