James E. Rice, 92, of Meadville, died Saturday, January 23, 1999, at Meadville Medical Center, after a period of declining health.
He was born in Meadville, September 7, 1906, a son of C. Frederick and Mary J. Marriessey Rice. He married Ruby Morris, August 2, 1934. She survives.
He retired in 1971 as the head foreman in the Temperature Control Department of the American Viscose Corp. after more than 40 years of service. He was also a member of its foreman's club and athletic association.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School and he attended the Milwaukee School of Design.
He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Richard J. Rice (Ann) of Boca Raton, FL, John Rice (Pat) of San Jose, CA and Thomas Rice of Costa Mesa, CA; two daughters, Christine Peterson of Fairview and Kathleen J. Thurman (John) of Norris, TN; seven grandchildren, Kelly and Michael Peterson, Mary Thurman, Richard Rice, Kim Brown and Lori Rice and two great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Taylor Brown.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Theodore Rice.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
