James Hugh Spaulding

James Hugh Spaulding, 81, formerly of Guys Mills and a resident of Union Mills, NC, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022.

He was born August 22, 1940 in Crawford County, a son of John Hugh and Edna Hart Spaulding.  He married Peggy Beige Knapp April 30, 1994.

Jim was a graduate of Meadville High School and a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1967.  When he returned from military service, he started his apprenticeship in the tool and die trade and worked for various tool shops in and around the Meadville area.  Jim built his log home at 12645 State Hwy 198, Guys Mills and lived in the area for over 40 years.  He started Dimension Carbide with his partner Greg Allen in 1995 at this location, retiring in 2016 and moved to Union Mills full-time in 2017.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Peggy, include Peggy’s three daughters, Cynthia Raynor (Barry), Kimberly Goss, and Melissa Drake; six grandchildren, Corey Hixenbaugh, Chad Drake, Jason Raynor, Adam Goss, Ashley Knapp, and Erin Knapp; three great-grandchildren, Christian Hixenbaugh, Brooks Raynor, and Margot Raynor; three brothers, Jack Boulton of Old Fort, NC, Joseph Spaulding of Guys Mills, and Donald Spaulding (Arlene) of Saegertown; two sisters, Diane Porter and Linda Spaulding, both of Newnan, GA; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Audley Spaulding; a sister, Mary Adsit and her husband Pete; and a stepson, David B. Knapp.

Family and friends will be received Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 1-2 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where a memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Don Fisher officiating and military honors.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
