James I. Boyce

James I. Boyce, 89, a resident of Meadville since 1991 and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since 2001 died Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Grace Nursing Center.

Jim was born December 19, 1917 in Clearfield, PA a son of William G. and Ethel Shemel Boyce.  He married A. Elzine Boyce July 14, 1973 and she preceded him in death September 4, 2003.

He was a Registered Nurse receiving his training at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.  He received his Bachelor’s degree from Temple University and his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago in 1955.  He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army serving in northern Africa.  He was hospital administrator of Lake County Memorial Hospital in Painesville, OH from 1956 until 1968 and then administrator of O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, OH until his retirement in 1983.  He held a private pilots license, was a Life Member of the American College of Hospital Administrators and he was a former member of the Painesville, OH and Meadville Rotary Clubs.

Survivors, include: four children, JP Thompson and her husband John Finkler of Willoughby Hills, OH, Joan Morgan of Niceville, FL, Patricia Lapham and her husband Ronald of Madison, OH and William White of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; and a sister, Dorothy L. Boyce of Clearfield, PA, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Following cremation a memorial service will take place in Ohio at the convenience of the family.
