James “Jim” L. Vodenichar

James L. “Jim” Vodenichar, 90 of Meadville, passed away at Rolling Fields Eldercare Community in Conneautville on Sunday, December 16. Jim was born in Sharon on April 22, 1928 to the late Frank and Rosena Hug Vodenichar. He was a graduate of Sharon High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marines. He then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Tech in Electrical Engineering. Jim was a Professionally Licensed Electrical Engineer, having worked at FuelGraf, Burt Hill and Assoc., WBC, and Channellock over his years. He was married to Rita Berchtold Vodenichar until 1976, she preceded him in death in January of 2003. He then married Jayne Vodenichar, she preceded him in death in March of 2010. Jim loved to go hunting and fishing. He enjoyed golfing, playing handball, and football in his high school and college years. In high school he was named athlete of the year, a title he was proud of. Jim was Catholic by faith. Jim is survived by his children, Leigh King and husband David of Sandy Lake, Lynn Maloney and husband Donald of Meadville, Jeffry Vodenichar and fiancée Marlaina Garver of Butler , and Jenny Fisher and husband Charles of Howard, PA, grandchildren Lauren, Beth, Kurt, Keith, Austin, Jacob, and Sara, numerous great-grandchildren, companion Laura Depaulos, three step-daughters, Tracy Wilson, Linda Heichel, and Jennifer McMillian, sister Rosemary Simmons and husband Bob of West Sunbury, sister in law Betty Vodenichar of Sharpsville, Amy Burns Vodenichar of Butler, and William and Paulette Vodenichar of Boyers In addition to his parents and wives, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Kurt James Vodenichar, his brother William Vodenichar, and granddaughter, Dana King. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Homes, Stoneboro & Sandy Lake. The family of Jim Vodenichar will be holding an open house reception from 2 to 4 PM on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Slippery Rock Township building located at 155 Branchton Rd. Slippery Rock PA 16057. Jim did not want a traditional funeral service – he didn’t want his last act to make others sad. Instead he asked that we enjoy him and his life in celebration. So, his family is inviting anyone who wishes to share a story or a warm memory to come share it with us as we celebrate his life with those he touched. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
