James L. Ploski

James L. Ploski, 78, of Meadville, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017. He was born October 14, 1938 in Meadville, a son of Stanley and Mary Watson Ploski. He married Sandra Lee Andre August 6, 1961 and she preceded him in death August 19, 1990. Jim was a 1956 graduate of the former Randolph-East Mead High School where he was class president and salutatorian. He obtained his Bachelors and Masters degree from Edinboro State College in 1960 and 1964 respectively. Jim retired in 1998 after 38 years as an algebra teacher in Lakeview School District. As a local contractor, he built and remodeled several houses in the area and painted a few hundred. Jim was a member of Stone United Methodist Church where he formerly served as a trustee. He was a member of the Meadville Kiwanis Golden-K, Masonic Lodge 408, and served on the board of directors of the Quality Living Center. He was a former member of the Meadville Jaycees, director of Meadville Area Youth Baseball, MASH baseball boosters, Taylor Hose Co., PSEA, NEA, PASR, and former president of the Lakeview School Retirees Assoc. As his high school class president, Jim chaired the class reunions every 5 years since graduation. While at Lakeview, he served as chief negotiator for a number of contracts between the staff and school board. He enjoyed photography, golfing, woodworking, and working on houses. Survivors include two sons, Steven (Quiz) Ploski of Meadville and Richard (Ricky) Ploski and his wife Janett and their daughter Soley of Yuma, AZ; a sister, Barbara Atwell and her husband Ron of Meadville; a brother, Robert Ploski and his wife Kendra of Meadville; three nieces, Jan Carkin, Jody Roess, and Stephanie Atwell; and two nephews, Garth Ploski and Chad Atwell. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father December 12, 1988, his mother March 20, 2006, and a sister, Lillian Lee December 11, 1996. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 30th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE. The funeral and committal service will be Wednesday, May 31st at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills. Memorials may be made to a church of the donors choice or to a charity of the donors choice.
