James M. Martin, 74, of Meadville, died suddenly Sunday, January 27, 1963, at his home.
He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, May 14, 1885, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Martin. He was married first to Lula E. Minneley, who died in 1953, and later to Mrs. Genevieve Sellers.
Mr. Martin attended public school in Brooklyn, NY, Pratt Institute of Technology in Brooklyn and received a degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University, New York City.
He was associated at one time with the Erie Railroad Co. shops and engineering department in Salamanca, NY, Cleveland and Meadville. He was employed by Warner-Swasey Co. of Cleveland before joining the engineering department of the American Viscose Corp. during the period of construction of the Meadville plant in 1928. He was with American Viscose 17 years. In recent years, he had served as a consulting engineer for Kuljian Corp. of Philadelphia until retiring.
He was a member of numerous local Masonic and Zem Zem Shrine organizations.
Surviving are his widow; two sons, Bruce D. of Conneaut Lake and Donald S. of Saegertown; a step son, F. William Sellers at home; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Hyler, Mrs. Jean Garrison and Miss Agnes Martin, all of Boonton, NJ and six grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
