James Nelson Ewing

September 11, 1946 — September 15, 2002

James Nelson Ewing, 56, of 726 Terrace Street Ext., Meadville, died unexpectedly of a cerebral aneurysm Sunday, September 15, 2002 at Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie.

He was born in Meadville, September 11, 1946 a son of Dr. Fred L. and Betty (Burd) Ewing.  He married Dolores Vekasy December 19, 1970.

He made many friends through his work as a self-employed building contractor and he was especially proud of his work on the façade of the Italian Civic Club and Carini Restaurant.

He was a member of Saegertown Community Church and its choir.  He graduated from Meadville High School in 1964, attended Allegheny College, and the City University of New York.  He enjoyed hiking and the outdoors, woodworking, and building furniture.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Dolores, include: a daughter, Nancy Ewing of Chicago; a son, Andrew Ewing; his mother, Betty Ewing; two sisters, Carol Deiss and Barbara J. Ewing all of Meadville.  He was preceded in death by twin daughters and his father, Fred L. Ewing, MD.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home,  581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Wednesday from 11-12 at the Saegertown Community Church, Main Street, Saegertown.

The funeral service will be Wednesday at 12 p.m. at the Saegertown Community Church, Main Street, Saegertown with the Rev. Richard Haemer and the Rev. Emory Ringer, officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Saegertown Community Church, P.O. Box 314, Saegertown, PA 16433.
