James O. Scannell, 72, of Soldiers and Sailors Home, Erie, formerly of Meadville, died Tuesday, October 8, 1997 at his residence a short illness.
He was born May 30, 1925 in Franklin, a son of the late Evan Oliver and Claire Orlando Scannell. He married Lillian Austin March 20, 1946. She preceded him in death on October 30, 1990. He subsequently married Mildred L. Taylor in 1992. She survives.
Mr. Scannell spent most of his career in the military. He was a veteran of both the US Navy serving in WWII and the US Army serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the US National Guard. He worked at Polk state hospital following his military career attending to residents and retired in 1977. He was a member of Saegertown American Legion and former member of Franklin Moose Lodge. He particularly enjoyed fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Rev. Rodney (Janet) E. Scannell of Farrell and James (Cheryl) M. Scannell of Saegertown; one daughter, Pamela Jo (James Aikens) Bump of Farrell; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Louise Schoch of Hartstown; Twila Fry of Oil City and Page Tracy of Franklin and one brother, Martin Lee Scannell of Franklin.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Katheryn Darling; one brohter, Leroy Scannell; and two sisters, Jean Scannell and Doris Blair.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
