James Gordon Oakes

June 12, 1911 — July 6, 1956

James Gordon Oakes, 45, of Mt. Hope, died Friday morning at Hahnaman Hospital, Philadelphia, after undergoing a heart operation Thursday.

A son of Harold and Esther Morrison Oakes, he was a lifelong resident of the Mt. Hope community where he was engaged in farming.  He attended Randolph High School, Guys Mills, and Allegheny College.  Oakes was employed by American Viscose Corp. for several years.

He was a member of the Mt. Hope Methodist Church and was master of Mt. Hope Grange.

He is survived by his widow, Faye Hineman Oakes, who had been teaching at the East Randolph School, Black Ash; three sons, James of Hooversville, Gerald of Edinboro, and David at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold A. Oakes of Mt. Hope; two brothers, Robert of Erie and Warren of Cochranton; a sister, John McCurdy of Mt. Hope.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
