James P. Callahan, Jr., 62, of Meadville, died Friday, May 5, 2017 surrounded by his family at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born in Meadville April 28, 1955 a son of James P. and Nellie Peterson Callahan, Sr. He married Carol Anderson November 15, 1975 and she survives.
He was a 1973 graduate of Meadville High School and the Crawford County Vo-Tech School Tool and Die program. He worked in tool and die at Actco Tool and Manufacturing Co., K.J. Tool and retired from Realco Tool.
He was a member of the Catholic Community of Meadville growing up at St. Brigid Church where he served as an Altar Boy for several years. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan following the Browns, Indians and Cavaliers. He loved riding his motorcycle and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He bowled in the tool room leagues at Plaza Lanes. And he coached his girls in softball and soccer for several years. He was also very proud of his Irish heritage. His family was the most important to him and he always put them first.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Carol of 41 years, include: six children, Heide Callahan of Meadville, Cassandra Callahan Farkas and her husband Jason of Meadville, Clayton Callahan and his fiancée Michelle Coon of Meadville, Jessica Callahan Ellis and her husband Chris of Conneautville, Jared Callahan of Conneautville and April Mielecki and her husband James of Atlantic; his mother, Nellie Callahan of Conneaut Lake; ten grandchildren, Daniel and Colton Ellis, Matthew and Joshua Callahan, Aiden and Grayson Farkas, Garrett, Patrica and Robert Wilcox and Sophia Wasson; two brothers, Michael Callahan of Conneaut Lake and Patrick Callahan and his wife Rachel of Conneaut Lake; a sister-in-law, Waneta Callahan of Meadville; two nieces, Julia Callahan of Meadville and Jennifer Callahan and her husband Raymond James of Ithaca, NY and a nephew, Ian Callahan of Conneaut Lake.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Sierra and Hunter Callahan; two brothers, Dan Callahan and Brian Callahan and his in-laws, Clayton and Ione Anderson.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with a Scripture Prayer Service at 7:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch Street, Meadville.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
