James V. Costello

James V. Costello, 89, of Meadville, died Friday, September 25, 2009 at the Crawford County Care Center.

He was born August 24, 1920 in Cleveland, OH, a son of the late Vincenzo and Filomina Iammarino Costello.  He had been married to Eleanor Clayball and subsequently married Ruth Ison Ryder May 24, 1946 and she preceded him in death November 27, 1998.

Jim retired from General Motors Corp., Parma, OH in 1982 as a maintenance mechanic.  He was a skilled craftsman and mechanic and enjoyed playing cards.

He was a member of Park Congregational Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Ann Toth of San Diego, CA; a sister, Yolanda Tvorik of Cleveland, OH; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and his companion, Cecilia Franczak of Meadville.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, James Lloyd Costello; a daughter, Rita Sabruno; and several brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will be Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Brumagin, Meadville Medical Center Chaplain and Associate Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
