Jane Eleanor (Toner) Long

Jane Eleanor Toner Long, 89, of Meadville died Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the Meadville Medical Center.

She was born December 20, 1932 in Warren, PA a daughter of Leon Henderson and Wilma Jane Sullivan Toner.  She married Norman C. Long June 30, 1956 and he preceded her in death April 27, 2003.

She was a 1950 graduate of Warren High School and she then attended the former Edinboro State Teachers College.  In 1955 she graduated from Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing.  She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Departments of both Spencer and City Hospitals.  She retired from Meadville Medical Center in 1998.  She also worked in the offices of Dr. R. Duane Good and Dr. Paul Peirsel.  In her retirement, she worked taking blood pressure at Jack’s Pharmacy and giving flu shots around the area.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Reformed Church.  She was a volunteer and Board Member of the Meadville Soup Kitchen.  She enjoyed working outside around her house, taking care of the garden, the lawn and shoveling the snow.  She also had a love for all animals, but especially her cats.

She is survived by a son, Jeff Long (Christine) of Defiance, OH; a daughter, Jill Steiner (Arthur) of Meadville; two grandchildren Kip Long and Kiersten Long of Defiance, OH; step-grandchildren, Jake Steiner and his family of Raleigh, NC, Jeremy Steiner and his family of Meadville, Tim and Nicole Long and their family of Defiance, OH and Lisa Long and her family of Maitland, FL and many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Calling hours will be Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 1-3 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Joel Diangi, officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, the Meadville Community Soup Kitchen, 956 S. Main Street or St. Paul’s Reformed Church, 1070 Park Avenue all of Meadville, PA 16335.
