Janet M. Lingo, 82, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
She was born December 31, 1934 in Clarion, a daughter of George R.D. and Florence Slaugenhoupt Braun. She married Ladd V. Lingo June 8, 1957 and he preceded her in death April 21, 2006.
Janet was a 1953 graduate of Meadville High School. She was no stranger to Wesbury as her father, the Rev. George Braun was the administrator there when it first opened, and Janet worked in the dining room after school and later became a nurse’s aide. She also married former Wesbury Cribbs administrator Ladd Lingo. She met Ladd on a dare from his sister who convinced Janet to call him up and ask him out. Neither of them thought he would say yes but he did, and they hit it off that night when they went out to the movies. Janet’s daughter, Debbie, has worked at Wesbury for 38 years and Janet often brought her cat, Prince, with her to Wesbury.
A member of Stone United Methodist Church, Janet enjoyed sewing, gardening, doing crafts, reading mystery thrillers by James Patterson, and doing cryptogram puzzles. She was a NASCAR fan and one of her favorite memories was when she rented a RV and went to Darlington Race Track in South Carolina with her daughters. Evident by the graphics on her coffee cup, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was her favorite driver. She also enjoyed music, particularly easy listening and classical.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Lingo of Meadville and Sheree Griggs and her husband Jim of Hartstown; four grandchildren, Matthew Williams, Lisa Fries and her husband Jamie, David Griggs, and Daniel Griggs; two great-grandchildren, Veralyn Williams and Connor Fries; and a sister, Barbara Graybill of Roseville, OH.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Braun.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the funeral and committal service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. William Cox, great-nephew, officiating.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorials Gardens.
