Jean Lewis, 91, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community since 1997 and formerly of Pittsburgh, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Meadville Medical Center.
She was born in Pittsburgh May 17, 1914, a daughter of the late William Moore and Florence Chisnell Lewis.
She was a 1931 graduate of Pittsburgh Peabody High School. She worked in banking for 20 years in the mortgage, real estate and trust departments of Union Trust Company and its successor Mellon Bank.
She was a former member of Bloomfield Community Church United Methodist of Pittsburgh and a current member of Stone United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, reading, walking, the arts, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. She helped for many years as a family caregiver.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, Robert Byers of Meadville; a nephew, Rev. William L. Brown and his wife Carolyn of Conneaut Lake; a niece, Lois Jean Brown of Warren, OH; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Brown, Edith West, Florence Porter, and Lucille Byers.
Calling hour will be Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Cribbs Home, Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. in McCracken Chapel, Cribbs Home, Wesbury with the Rev. William L. Brown, Nephew, officiating.
A Graveside Committal Service will be at 2:00 p.m. in Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
