Jennings M. (Red) Graham, 81, a law-enforcement officer in the county for 50 years, of Meadville, died at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Thursday, April 4, 1991, after an illness of several months.
He was born in Butler, August 8, 1909, a son of Frank J. and Cora Miller Graham. He married Naomi Satterlee, September 16, 1932. She preceded him in death December 9, 1983.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
He was first employed by the Pennsylvania Highway Patrol for several years. He later retired as sergeant from the Meadville City Police Department after 25 years of service. He was one of the first city motorcycle patrolmen, one of the founders of the police pension fund, and an organizer and supervisor of the school-safety patrol program.
After retiring from the Meadville City Police Department, he worked for eight years for the highway department, then served as a deputy sheriff for 18 years for Crawford County. He was a retired charter member of the Col. Lewis Walker Lodge 97, of the Fraternal Order of Police.
He had been recognized by the FOP for his 50 year in law enforcement.
He had been a Republican committeeman for many years, and was very proud of having voted in every election since 1933. He was a life member of Elks Lodge 219, and a member of Cussewago Lodge 108, International Order of Odd Fellows.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John (Carole) Stefanucci and Mrs. Larry (Marian) Stallard, both of Meadville; a brother, Ralph Graham of Butler; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Nagle and Viola Long; and four brothers, Cecil, Clair, Rush and Kenneth Graham.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
